Flying from Canada

While many travel restrictions have eased, all passengers must wear a mask throughout their entire journey except for brief periods while eating, drinking, or taking oral medication, or unless otherwise exempt. A negative COVID test is no longer needed for departure.

It’s important to arrive at the airport well in advance of your flight, so you have plenty of time to check in, drop off your bags and go through security screening.

  • Check-in deadlines
To avoid delays at the airport, we encourage you to check in from 24 hours prior to departure using your Air Canada App or online. If you prefer to check in at the airport, please arrive well before the check-in deadlines indicated below.
  • Baggage drop-off
Make sure to arrive well before the baggage drop-off counter closes, as you cannot check bags once the deadlines below have passed. Overweight baggage can take longer to check. Use our checked baggage calculator to determine your free baggage allowance and any fees.

Check-in and boarding gate deadlines
As processing times at the airport are longer than normal due to COVID-19, it’s important to respect the following deadlines for your itinerary. Failure to respect them may result in the reassignment of any reserved seats, the cancellation of reservations, and/or ineligibility for denied boarding compensation.

Fully Vaccinated Travellers

Pre-entry tests are not required for fully vaccinated travellers entering Canada by land, air or water. You must still use ArriveCAN within 72 hours before your arrival to Canada.

Unvaccinated or Partially Vaccinated Travellers

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travellers must present proof of one of the following when arriving back to Canada:

  • Negative COVID-19 molecular test result taken 72 hours before your scheduled flight to Canada, or arrival at the land border or marine port of entry
  • Negative COVID-19 antigen test result taken no more than one calendar day before your scheduled flight to Canada, or arrival at the land border or marine port of entry
  • Positive COVID-19 molecular test result from a test taken at least 10 days and no more than 180 days before your scheduled flight to Canada, or arrival at the land border or marine port of entry

Available free for iOS, Android and web.

The mobile app is free and secure and is the official Government of Canada platform. It is available in English, French and Spanish (displayed in the language of your device). Download the latest version of ArriveCAN or select “update” in your app store.
